MATTHEW 14:22-33 – THERE’S A TIME
To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: – Ecclesiastes 3:1
- We know that there’s a time in our lives for various activities.
- After the feeding of the 5,000, another miracle took place. This miracle shows us there is a time for certain things in our lives.
THERE’S A TIME TO RETREAT – Matthew 14:22-23, John 6:15
- Jesus perceived that after this miracle there would be a movement to make Him king.
- Jesus sent away his disciples, dismissed the crowd, and went to a mountain by himself to pray.
- There are times when we need to retreat from the busyness in life and spend extra time with the Lord in Bible reading and prayer.
THERE’S A TIME TO RETURN – Matthew 14:24-25
- Although retreating can be refreshing, returning to the action is necessary.
- The disciples were in trouble and Jesus, in a miraculous way, came to them.
- There are people in trouble who need our help. We must be aware of when it is time for us to act.
THERE’S A TIME TO REASSURE – Matthew 14:26-27
- The disciples were fighting for their lives. When they saw Jesus walking on the water near them they panicked.
- Jesus reassured them of His presence and told them to be of good cheer and not be afraid.
- Sometimes we need to reassure people with our encouraging words, Scripture, and prayers. Other times, we need to let other people reassure us.
THERE’S A TIME TO RESPOND – Matthew 14:28-29
- Peter responded in faith and was encouraged to go to Jesus, walking on the water himself.
- There are times when we need to respond to the call of God and step out in faith.
THERE’S A TIME TO RELY – Matthew 14:30-31
- Peter’s problem was that he was letting circumstances bother him. He panicked.
- He did the right thing. He cried for help.
- He was rebuked by Jesus for his lack of faith. How often do we have the same problem!
THERE’S A TIME FOR REST – Matthew 14:32
- There was calm. With Jesus in the boat there’s time for rest of body, mind, and spirit.
THERE’S A TIME FOR REVERENCE – Matthew 14:33
- When we see Jesus at work, it is time for us to worship Him.
