2 PETER 1:12-21 – TRUE VALUE
The Apostle Peter was at the end of His journey on earth. He was writing to those who were Christ-followers to encourage them to finish well, as they lived the Christian life. He was particularly concerned about the false teachers that were plaguing the early church.
Peter wanted each believer to show diligence by being devoted to Christ, by being dependent on Christ and by being determined in their behavior.
As Peter concludes the first chapter of 2 Peter, he encourages his readers to seek true value as they are instructed in the Christian life.
THE VALUE OF PERSISTENT WISDOM – 1 Peter 1:12-15
- 12 – Peter cared about the Spiritual well-being of fellow believers.
- He would not negligent to remind them, though they knew and practiced the truth.
- Paul had the same attitude. Philippians 3:1
- 13 – “Stir you up” – ‘Arouse thoroughly’ Luke 9:32
- 14 – Psalm 39:4
- 15 – Psalm 71:17-18
THE VALUE OF PERSONAL WITNESS – 1 Peter 1:16-18
- 16 – Peter is saying, “We didn’t make this up!”, as false teachers were accusing them of doing.
- Eyewitnesses – Luke 9:28-33, John 1:14
- 17-18 – Luke 9:34-36
- We are personal witnesses of what Jesus has done for us. This will encourage both non-Christian and Christians. Acts 1:8, Hebrews 10:24-25, Psalm 107:2
THE VALUE OF THE PROFOUND WORD – 1 Peter 1:19-21
- 19 – Pete is saying, as good as our experience was, you have “the Prophetic Word” or what was then the Old Testament. Now we have the New testament as well.
- 20 – Real Scripture does not come from man’s thoughts.
- 21 – Real Scripture is inspired by God. 2 Timothy 3:16
