JUDGES 11:29-12:7 – TONGUES OUT OF CONTROL

Psalm 141:3 – Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips.

Psalm 141:3 is a prayer we should all pray. Tongues out of control have done irreparable damage over the years. If we know Jesus as our Savior, we should seek the control of our tongues. This true story about Jephthah, an Old Testament judge, reveals the damage done by tongues out of control.

A FOOLISH VOW – Judges 11:29-40 – Jephthah’s foolish vow cost him his only daughter.

A FOOLISH THREAT – Judges 12:1 – The angry foolish words threatening Jephthah, stirred up Jephthah’s anger. Proverbs 15:1

A FOOLISH RETALIATION – Judges 12:2-4 – Jephthah’s angry tongue led to foolish retaliation.

A FOOLISH SLAUGHTER – Judges 12:5-7 – A foolish use of the tongue to identify the enemy caused thousands to die.

Let’s all heed James admonition about the tongue and ask God to control ours. James 3:1-7
