Malachi 3:16-4:6 – SUNSHINE
We like the sun! There’s nothing like a bright sunny day after a snow storm to show off nature’s beauty. There’s nothing like sunshine to accent the coming out of the leaves and flowers in the spring. There’s nothing like sunshine to highlight a summer day at the beach! There’s nothing like sunshine to bring out the beauty of fall colors.
Even in life’s relationships we refer to sunshine.
An old song goes,
“You are my sunshine, my only sunshine,
You make me happy when skies are gray,
Oh you don’t know dear, how much I love you,
Please don’t take my sunshine away.”
We use sunshine as a spiritual application as well,
Eliza E. Hewitt wrote:
“There is sunshine in my soul today,
More glorious and bright
Than glows in any early sky,
For Jesus is my light.
“O there’s sunshine, blessed sunshine,
While the peaceful happy moments roll;
When Jesus shows His smiling face,
There is sunshine in my soul.”
The passage before us deals primarily with prophecy concerning future events in the life of Israel, and the one who will bring this to pass. He will rule, reign and be all that Israel would ever want. He is the Lord Jesus, THE SON OF RIGHTEOUSNESS. He is the future sunshine for Israel, and the sunshine for Christians now.
A FAITHFUL REMNANT – 3:16-17
God always has a remnant of faithful people who will follow Him no matter what.
A FEARFUL RESULT – 4:1
The Day of the Lord is coming!
A FUTURE REIGN – 4:2-3
See Isaiah 11.
A FINAL REMINDER – 4:4
Those waiting for Jesus to come are to remain obedient.
A FORTHCOMING RESTORER – 4:5-6
