Matthew 10:5-20 – SPECIAL MISSION

Jesus sent the twelve disciples out to do ministry.

PLACE OF MINISTRY – Vss. 5-6

At this time before Jesus went to the cross, Jesus’ ministry was to the “lost sheep of Israel”.

The disciples, therefore were not yet sent to the Gentiles or Samaritans. That changed when Jesus rose from the dead. Matthew 28:19-20, Mark 16:15, Acts 1:8

PRACTICE OF MINISTRY – Vss. 7-8

They were to preach that the Kingdom of God was at hand, and were to perform miracles.

Freely they had received, they were to freely give. This is a good point for us today. We have received freely received God’s grace. We should freely share God’s grace.

PROVISION FOR MINISTRY – Vss. 9-11

The people of Israel were to be used of God to provide for the needs of the disciples.

PRECAUTIONS FOR MINISTRY – Vss. 12-20

Peace was to be on the homes that received the disciples’ ministry. Vss. 12-13a

The disciples were to reject those who rejected their ministry. Vss. 13b-15

The disciples were to be “wise as serpents” and harmless as doves. Vs. 16

The disciples were to be prepared to face persecution. Vss. 17-18

The disciples were not to be afraid what they would say. The Spirit of God would provide the words. Vss. 19-20
