This passage specifically talks about the glorious, final pilgrim journey taken by scattered Israel when it comes back to their native land after the return of the Lord Jesus Christ to establish His kingdom.

Because all Scripture is profitable for us as Christians (Romans 15:4, 2 Timothy 3:16), we can apply this passage to us who are journeying through this life to the time that Jesus returns for us by death or by the Rapture (Philippians 3:7-22, 1 Peter 2:9-11, Psalm 116:15, 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18). Let’s talk about this special journey!

IT’S THE HELPED, HOPEFUL WAY – Isaiah 35:1-4, Isaiah 35:9-10

  • Both those returning to the Promised Land and those going to Heaven had to be helped because of their sin. Isaiah 64:6
  • Jesus redeemed us by being the perfect sacrifice for sin (2 Corinthians 5:21). It is acceptance of that payment through faith that we have forgiveness and eternal life (Romans 5:1, Romans 5:6-9)
  • We are the “redeemed” or ransomed of the Lord. Isaiah 51:10, Isaiah 35:9-10
  • On the way to the Promised Land, nature will joyfully cooperate, giving hope to Israel (Isaiah 35:1-2), and encouragement along the way.
  • On our way to Heaven, we are given hope and encouragement along the way by the help and power of God’s Holy Spirit. John 14:15-18, John 14:25-26, John 16:7-15, John 16:33

  • In Christ, the Spiritually blind, see!
  • In Christ, the Spiritually dead, hear!
  • In Christ, the Spiritually lame, walk!
  • In Christ, the Spiritually silent, sing! (Isaiah 35:5-6)
  • In Christ, the way becomes healthy because of the provision for all our Spiritual needs. (Isaiah 35:6-7)

IT’S THE HIGH, HOLY WAY – Isaiah 35:8-9

  • It’s a highway or “high” way through this life because it is the only way and holy way! Isaiah 35:8, John 14:6, 1 Peter 1:12-23
  • It is a “high” way because we warned and protected on the way. Isaiah 35:9, 1 Peter 5:8-9, Romans 8:1-4

  • For Israel, they will be headed to the Promised Land, the eternal Kingdom of Christ.
  • For us, we are headed to our Promised Land, in the presence of our Lord Jesus, and eventually possessing our new Resurrection bodies.
  • Because we, as believers, are have the “downpayment” of the Holy Spirit on our total redemption, we can enjoy the happiness we have in Jesus right now! 1 Corinthians 1:22-23, Ephesians 1:13-14, Philippians 1:20-21
  • We experience happiness or joy now as we allow the Holy to control us. Ephesians 5:18-21
