PRAYING FOR SANCTIFICATION
Philippians 1:9-11, 1 Thessalonians 5:15-24
- When you think of the word “sanctification”, what comes to mind?
- “Sanctification is the ongoing supernatural work of God to rescue justified sinners from the disease of sin and to conform them to the image of his Son: holy, Christlike, and empowered to do good works.” – Lexham Survey of Theology
God’s goal for us is that we be sanctified or “set apart for Him”. 1 Peter 1:15-16, 3:15
As Christians, we can be asking God to set us and each other apart in these various ways:
That we would be “abounding in love”. – Philippians 1:9
That we would be approving the excellent. – Philippians 1:10
That we would be abundant with fruit. – Philippians 1:11
That we would pursue what is good. – 1 Thessalonians 5:15
That we would be persistent in praise and prayer. – 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
That we would be powerful in faith. – 1 Thessalonians 5:19
That we would be perceptive with Scripture. – 1 Thessalonians 5:20-21
That we would be pure in every way. – 1 Thessalonians 5:22
That we would be perfectly set apart. – 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24
