Psalm 9 – IN AWE OF GOD
Name some things or events or people who have left you in awe.
Of course, more than anything else, we should be in awe of God.
Read the words to “How Great Thou Art”.
In Psalm 9 David stands in awe of God.
THE EXCELLENCE OF GOD’S NAME – Vss. 1, 9
The word Lord is used twice in each of these verses.
The first word, “LORD”, is the word for Jehovah. Jehovah is “the self-existent one”. He is the great “I AM”! See Exodus 3:13-15.
The second word, “Lord” is the word “Adoniai”. Evidently this word means that God is our sovereign, or master.
The word “excellent” means “majestic”.
The Lord’s name is more majestic, more superior, more awesome than any other name on earth.
See Psalm 95:1-3
THE EXPRESSION OF GOD’S PRAISE – Vs. 2
This verse was literally fulfilled in Matthew 21:15-16.
God’s plan today is that the humble will be the ones who express God’s praise. 1 Corinthians 1:26-31, 1 Peter 3:15
THE EXPLANATION OF GOD’S POWER – Vss. 3-8
In these verses the Psalmist explains why He is in awe of God.
Please note that man’s dominion, mentioned in verse 6, was fulfilled in the Garden of Eden. Genesis 1:26-28
Man lost that dominion when he sinned.
Our Lord Jesus Christ will one day regain that dominion when He reigns on earth. Isaiah 11:4-8
