FORGIVENESS – Genesis 50:15-21 – FORGIVEN!
Jacob was dead! The patriarch of the clan had gone on. What would happen now? As long as Jacob had been alive Brother Joseph, Prime Minister of Egypt, had treated his brothers kindly in spit of how miserably they treated him as a child.
CONCERN OF JOSEPH’S BROTHERS – Vs. 15
In Genesis 37 we are told that Joseph’s brothers had sold Joseph into slavery.
Now they were concerned that Joseph would “get even”.
CONFESSION OF JOSEPH’S BROTHERS – Vss. 16-18
They basically sent to Joseph and begged for mercy. Then, they came and submitted themselves to him.
COMPASSION ON JOSEPH’S BROTHERS – Vss. 19-21
Joseph realized that God was the judge, not him. (Romans 12:19) – Vs. 19
Joseph saw God’s purpose in his mistreatment. “God meant it for good.” – Vs. 20
Joseph showed his forgiveness by continuing to take care of his brothers and their families. – Vs. 21
When we are concerned about our sins and confess our need for a Savior, God has compassion and forgives us. Romans 10:13, Ephesians 2:8-9
When we are concerned about our sins as Christians and confess them, God has compassion and forgives. 1 John 1:9
When others are concerned about their offenses towards us and confess, seeking forgiveness, we are to have compassion and forgive. Ephesians 4:32
