1 CORINTHIANS 13:4-8a – FIRST LOVE or THE UNITY OF LOVE

1 John 4:7–8 – Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

WHY THIS MESSAGE?

  1. Today is Mother’s Day (If it’s not Mother’s Day eliminate this point.) – Mothers are known for their love!
  2. The theme of 1 Corinthians is unity. 1 Corinthians 1:10
  3. Without love for God and for each other there will be no unity. Matthew 22:37-40, John 13:34-35
  4. Without love for Jesus and love for God we are disobedient. John 14:21-24

WHAT DOES LOVE LOOK LIKE?

Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truthBeareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. Charity never faileth:

  2. Rely – Ephesians 5:18, Luke 11:13
  3. Respond (in Obedience and Faith) – John 14:21, Ephesians 6:16, Numbers 14:24
