A message for the death of a born-again Christian.

God created us to be dependent.

  • We were born and dependent upon others to preserve our lives after we were born.
  • We were raised dependent upon adults, mostly parents, to train us, teach us, guide us, help us.
  • All through life we will depend on others to help meet our needs.

Most of all, God wants us to be dependent on Him through his Son, the Lord Jesus.

________________________(Name of Person) was one who depended on her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Psalm 121 is a very comforting Psalm and reminds me how we should be dependent on the Lord all our lives.

HELP FROM THE LORD – Psalm 121:1-2 – I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. [2] My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.

  • The Psalmist was asking if his help came from the hills, were idols were often worshipped.
  • His answer was, “No!”, “My help comes from the Lord.”
  • The biggest help we need is having our sins forgiven, our guilt washed away, and entrance secured to God’s perfect heaven. Romans 3:10-20, Romans 6:23
  • Jesus came as God the Son to earth, lived a perfect life, paid for our sins on the cross, so forgiveness and eternal life is available to all who trust Him alone for salvation. 2 Corinthians 5:21, 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, John 3:16, John 1:12-13, Ephesians 2:8-9
  • One we get our help for eternal life resolved, the Lord help us through all of this life’s troubles and trials. We should look for His help as we stay close to Him. John 15:1-7, Hebrews 13:5-6

HELD BY THE LORD – Psalm 121:3-5 – He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. [4] Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. [5] The Lord is thy keeper

  • The Lord will hold on to us all our days. He will protect us from stumbling every day and night. He is keeping you at all times. He’s holding on!

HIDDEN IN THE LORD – Psalm 121:5-7 – …the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand. [6] The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. [7] The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.

  • When troubles of all kinds come upon us, we are hidden with Christ in God (Colossians 3:3). He will protect us through every trial.
  • Although evil is in the world it will never truly defeat the child of God.
  • The Lord is the one who keeps our soul. John 10:27-30

HOME WITH LORD – Psalm 121:8 – The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.

  • The Lord will keep us through this life, receive our spirits into Heaven when we die, and later give us new resurrection bodies. Psalm 73:23-26, 2 Corinthians 5:8, 1 Corinthians 15:51-57
