Job 28:28 etc. – CONSISTENTLY WISE

CONSISTENTLY HIS #4 of 4

We don’t always do things which are wise. Give some personal examples of what you or people you know did that was unwise.

Me – Sitting on the end of a helicopter seat without a seatbelt.

Me – Not telling my Dad that I had become a Baptist but told someone else in the church congregation where I grew up.

We are talking about how to be consistent in our Christian Lives.

Week 1 – Not alone as we battle for consistency. Holy Spirit is inside of us.

Week 2 – To be consistent we need to have the Mindset, or mind of Christ. Philippians 2:5-11

Week 3 – We showed you three things to remember from Isaiah 41:8-13

  • We are Special – We God’s servants, chosen, and friends
  • We are Strengthened
  • We are secure

This Week: We need to be consistently wise.

DEFINITION – Job 28:28 – And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.

This verse defines wisdom and understanding.

Luke 10:2, Deuteronomy 6:4-5, Deuteronomy 6:12, Deuteronomy 7:2, Leviticus 20:7-8

The Jewish people were to fear God and depart from evil.

DECISION Proverbs 9:10 – The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

According to James Montgomery Boice, the word “beginning” here means ‘prerequisite’. I also think of it as the condition for having wisdom.  Romans 3:13, 6:23, 2 Corinthians 5:21, Romans 10:9-10, John 3:16-18, John 3:36, John 10:27-30, Acts 9:1-9

The first decision you must make is to trust Christ as our Savior. By turning to Christ, as Savior you are also deciding to turn away from evil.

As a Christian, you must decide daily, hourly, and continually to fear the Lord and Depart from evil

DEVOTION – Proverbs 3:5-7  Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.

2 Corinthians 5:14-15, Psalm 32:8, Ephesians 5:16-18, 2 Timothy 2:3-4

We must be in the word, and prayer for this to happen!
