ROMANS 1:1-6 – A WORD OF ADVICE OR ADVICE FOR A NEW YEAR

I’ve gotten a lot of advice in my time. Two great sources of advice were my Dad and my mentor. (Give your own examples.)

This morning, as your Pastor, I want to give you a word of advice (I did it for the New Year).

KNOW WHO YOU ARE, AND ACT ACCORDINGLY!

Our example is the Apostle Paul. Paul knew who he was, and it affected his whole life.

Romans 1:1 – Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God,

Three things true of Paul and are true of you if you are a born-again Christian. You need to act on them!

Paul was a slave of Christ Jesus – you are a slave of Christ Jesus!

  • The word “servant”, means “slave”.
  • We shy away from the word “slave” because bondage to another human is terrible!
  • Being a slave of Christ Jesus is freeing! John 8:34-36 – Gospel – Romans 10:9-10
  • Paul active slave of Christ Jesus out of appreciation. Exodus 21:2-6, 2 Corinthians 5:14-15
  • Folks, being a servant of Jesus Christ is both a joy and a challenge! – Joys = Church, protection, people saved, Spiritual growth Challenges – Family, Finances, illnesses, persecution – Philippians 1:12-28

Paul was called – you are called!

  • God has called and equipped you to do the jobs that he wants you to do.
  • God has called me to be a Christian, a husband, a father, grandpa & Pastor of this church in that order! Ezra 7:10, Acts 6:4
  • Christian, God has gifted you to be you, and called you to serve in specific ways

Paul was set apart for the Gospel of God – you are set apart for the Gospel of God.

  • It’s all about God’s Good News! It’s all about Jesus! V2-4
  • Our mission, the Great Commission! Matt. 28:18-20

KNOW WHO YOU ARE, AND ACT ACCORDINGLY!
