JOHN 19

John 19:30

IT IS FINISHED!

There is always a sense of satisfaction when a job is done. When we can add

the word "finished" to a task at work, at home or church, it is a real

relief! I am glad to say that Dottie and I sent our children to Christian

Schools. But I am also glad to say that there was a day when I was finished

paying the bills. When our anything productive is completed, it is nice to

say "Finished!" When an unpleasant chapter in life is over, it is also good

when we can say, "Finished!"

"It is finished!" were words uttered by our Lord Jesus on the cross. His

task was completed.

He had done all that His Father had sent Him to do. There was nothing

overlooked. Every detail was attended to.

Of course, the words "It is finished" certainly refer to the atoning work of

Christ on the cross. Everything that needed to be done was done to secure

salvation. But the words "It is finished" can be placed over every part of

Jesus' life.

IT IS FINISHED MEANS:

1. EVERY APPOINTMENT KEPT

Before Christ ever set foot on this earth, I believe he had appointments

scheduled for Him. He was better than any doctor, any pastor, and any

salesman, at keeping every appointment. Here are some of the appointments

that he kept:

Nicodemus - John 3

The Woman at the Well - John 4

The Rich Young Ruler Mark 10:17-22

Zachaeus - Luke 19:1-10

Jerusalem - Luke 19:28-40, Zechariah 9:9

Calvary - Isaiah 53

2. EVERY MIRACLE PERFORMED

The Water Was Turned Into Wine - John 2

Many Blind Men Saw. Examples - Luke 18:35-43, John 9

Five Thousand Were Fed - John 6

The Sea Was Calmed During the Storm. - Luke 8

The "Light of the World" - John 9

The "Good Shepherd" - John 10

Concerning His Life - Isaiah 61:1-2a, Luke 4:16-21

Concerning His Death - Psalm 22: 1,14,18, Isaiah 53

5. EVERY SIN PAID FOR.

Not one sin was missed.

Not one offense overlooked.

Nothing was left out!

The work of Christ is complete. Romans 6:19, Hebrews 9:27-28, Hebrews 10:14
