Ezra 1

A PLANNED RETURN

 

God had promised that Jerusalem would be build under the influence of Cyrus. Isaiah 44:28

 

INTERVENTION FOR ISRAEL – Vss. 1-2

Jeremiah the Prophet had promised Israel a return to the land after 70 years. Jeremiah 29:10-14

The Lord “stirred up” the spirit of King Cyrus.

He made a proclamation that God had given him the job to build a house in Jerusalem.

 

INSTRUCTION FROM CYRUS – Vss. 3-4

Some were to return and build, while others who stayed were to support the project financially.

 

INVOLVEMENT FOR GOD – Vss. 5-11

  Israel – Vss. 5-6

  Cyrus – Vss. 7-11

GOD IN ACTION!

 

GOD MOVED A KING - Vss. 1-2

Cyrus was moved by God to call for the rebuilding of the temple in Jerusalem.

 

GOD MOTIVATED A PEOPLE - Vss. 3, 5

There were those who were motivated to return to Jerusalem to rebuild the temple.

 

GOD MADE A PROVISION - Vss. 4, 6-11

The people who didn't go gave to the work.  Cyrus himself made donations.

 

Think of this as a picture of God's plan for missions.

 

GOD MOVED A KING - JESUS

Jesus gave the Great Commission. Matthew 28:19-20, Mark 16:15

 

GOD MOTIVATES A PEOPLE - MISSIONARIES

Missionaries have responded to the King's call for workers.

 

GOD MAKES A PROVISION - SUPPORT

Those who do not go to the mission field can support the work of the missionaries that do.
