LESSONS FROM A JAIL CELL

THE MODEL CHURCH #20 OF 20

What are the advantages to being a child of God?

Are there any apparent disadvantages to being a child of God?

This chapter basically ends the treatment of the Church in Jerusalem, and now makes the Gentile church and outreach to the Gentiles the focus.  Here are some lessons from Acts 12:

GOD'S PEOPLE HAVE RESTRICTIONS Vss. 1-4

We mustn't think that God's servants are immune to problems, suffering, or even death. God allows suffering for various reasons.

Some people have come to Christ, thinking all their problems were solved.

Their biggest problem was solved, that of sin.

Because the problem of sin was solved, there is the promise of eternal life. John 3:36

In some ways, becoming a Christian is the beginning of problems.

1. Satan is now you enemy. 1 Peter 5:8

2. God has chosen trials as a means of growth. James 1:2-4

3. God has chosen trials as a basis for reward.  James 1:12

4. Persecution comes with faith in Christ. 1 Peter 1:12-14, John 15:18-20

God's people do have restrictions. Let's see Peter's restriction in the first four verses of our text.

GOD'S PEOPLE HAVE A RECOURSE Vs. 5

Actually, God's people have more than one recourse, but the one mentioned here is prayer. Matthew 7:7-11, James 5:16-18

If your like me, you are happy when your children trust you.

There is no greater joy that when my children trust me for an opinion or for help.

I do not mind my children asking for anything within reason, especially when they are in trouble. In fact, I'm glad when they do. Imagine the joy we give the Father when we cry out to Him, in shear dependence and trust.

And notice that the prayer here was unceasing. So often we just say a little prayer and then forget the request entirely. Prayer is to be a continuous, stubborn thing, until such time God gives an answer or shows us that we are praying for the wrong thing.

GOD'S PEOPLE HAVE A RESCUER Vss. 6-11

Psalm 34:19 - Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth him out of them all.

Psalm 97:10 - Ye that love the Lord, hate evil: he preserveth the souls of his saints; he delivereth them out of the hand of the wicked.

John 10:27-30 - My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: [28] And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. [29] My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. [30] I and my Father are one.

GOD'S PEOPLE HAVE RESPONSIBILITIES Vss. 12-17

TO REPORT - Peter would give them a full report. Vss. 12&17

Paul gave full missions reports. Acts 14:27

 WHY IS REPORTING IMPORTANT?

      1. It allows people to know how to praise and to pray.

      2. It gives credit to God.

      3. It makes the missionary or preacher accountable.

I give a pastor's report monthly at council meeting.

  TO BELIEVE - Vss. 13-16

GOD'S ENEMIES HAVE RETRIBUTION  Vss. 18-25
